IEM Katowice 2020 Betting – All You Need to Know

Since IEM Katowice 2020 will not be a Major, the entire format has changed. 16 teams will battle it out for their share of $500,000 prize pool money. The tournament itself will be split into two parts, the group stage and the playoffs.

Group Stage (February 25th – February 27th)

Since groups have not yet been revealed, you will not be able to find IEM Katowice odds for pre-match bets.

As for the format. Two double-elimination GSL groups have been put in place. Each group consists out of 8 teams. Keep in mind that the groups are seeded by ESL CS:GO World Rankings.

All of the opening matches will be played in the best of 1 format, while every other match will be played in the best of 3 series. The best three teams from each group will advance to the playoffs.

Playoffs(February 28th – March 1st)

IEM Katowice 2020 betting is definitely the most profitable if you decide to place your bets in the playoffs.

You will definitely enjoy the highest possible IEM Katowice odds and a ton of special bets.

Format is really simple. There are no second chances for anyone which means that a single-elimination bracket has been put in place.

All of the matches, except the grand final will be played in the best of 3 format. The final match, however, will be played in the best of 5 format.

IEM Katowice Prize Pool

Unlike the 2019 edition that featured a total of $1,000,000 in prize pool money. IEM Katowice 2020 teams will fight for a total of $500,000. Here is the full prize pool structure.

1st – $250,000
2nd – $100,000
3rd-4th – $40,000
5th-6th – $15,000
7th-8th – $7,000
9th – 12th – $4,000
13th – 16th – $2,500

IEM Katowice 2020 Teams

As mentioned above, a total of 16 teams will battle it out in front of the sold-out International Congress Centre in Poland. These are all the participants:

  • Fnatic
  • Astralis
  • Mousesports
  • 100 Thieves
  • EG
  • Liquid
  • Natus Vincere
  • NiP
  • Virtus.pro
  • Vitality
  • FaZe
  • G2
  • MAD Lions
  • Cloud9
  • Renegades
  • ViCi

As you can see from the list above, IEM Katowice betting could be really hard. There is no clear favorite in this one hence why we want to provide you with a couple of insights.

You should definitely avoid betting on Renegades, ViCi, Cloud9 and MAD Lions. Even though all of these teams are competent, they simply lack the individual skill to compete with teams such as Vitality, mousesports and Astralis.

However, if you are looking for safe IEM Katowice betting options, the smart money is definitely on Astralis, mousesports and Liquid.

There is no denying that these teams are favored in most of their match-ups and it will be interesting to see if someone will be able to steal this event from them.

Back in time: everything about IEM Katowice 2019

When did IEM Katowice 2019 start?

As you can see from our CSGO betting tips section, certain Minor and other qualifiers have to be played before the main event starts. IEM Katowice 2019 started on February 20th. After the group stage battles, fans stared to march towards the International Congress Center in order to enjoy playoffs and cheer for their favourite CSGO teams.

Which teams qualified for IEM Katowice 2019?

As you probably know, every team that secured Legendary Status on the FACEIT Major 2018 automatically secured their spot for the IEM Katowice 2019. Most of these teams are already in that top 10 list. Here are the teams that are already invited:

  • Astralis

Astralis is a well-known team in CSGO. They have won everything that can be won, and they are definitely going to be favoured by CSGO bookmakers. Furthermore, odds on them winning the entire thing will probably be low, but it would be a wise choice to bet on Astralis winning IEM Katowice 2019.

  • BIG

BIG are working on some major changes. They replaced nex with XANTARES and they are packing serious firepower at the moment. When it comes to IEM Katowice betting, you should definitely consider BIG as a dark-horse. They are a team capable of beating anyone, even though they fell short on ELEAGUE CS:GO Invitational 2019.

  • FaZe

FaZe is coming off from a victory on ELEAGUE CS:GO Invitational 2019. Even though they seemed rusty, they were still able to lift the trophy. However, there were some flaws in their game that smarter in-game leaders can take advantage of. Even though IEM Katowice 2019 odds on FaZe are not going to be so high, we here at counterstrikebetting.com would advise you to stay away from betting on FaZe’s matches.

  • HellRaisers

HellRaisers is a team you do not want to mess with. You simply cannot underestimate them. Their deadly duo, woxic and ISSAA recently got reinforced with former Major winner, Hobbit. God knows what they have in store for us for IEM Katowice 2019. Even though this is a long shot, odds on HellRaisers to win IEM Katowice 2019 should be through the roof, and maybe it would be worth to throw a couple of bucks on this bet.

  • Liquid

Liquid is definitely coming to IEM Katowice 2019 with high hopes. They were able to beat Astralis in a domineering manner at the iBUYPOWER Masters IV. Even though we  had suspected that Liquid would be replacing their support player with another hybrid fragger, this did not happen.

They displayed a solid performance in their best-of-3 series against Astralis in the grand final. And even though they're the second favourites to win the IEM Katowice 2019, betting on them could yield a good profit.

  • MIBR

MIBR, just like Liquid, are coming off from fresh roster changes. They decided to go back to a full Brazilian roster. They have had successful past, and IEM Katowice bookies will have a hard time predicting how well MIBR will play. They could surprise everyone and lift the trophy, but they could also crash out of the group without even winning a game.

  • Natus Vincere

Natus Vincere is harbouring the best CS:GO player in the world, s1mple. If s1mple weren't playing for Natus Vincere, they wouldn't even rank in the top 10. However, this will probably be a do-or-die moment for them. If they won't achieve good results in the IEM Katowice 2019, then s1mple might just as well leave their roster and no one would blame him for that. He is surrounded by veterans who are simply not good enough anymore. Natus Vincere is definitely an X-factor when it comes to IEM Katowice betting. If their star player is on point, they can stomp anyone, but if s1mple defaults, NaVi is going to struggle.

  • compLexity

compLexity is nowhere to be found in 2019. They had a great final quarter of 2018, but they stopped for some reason. Furthermore, the organisation decided to replace certain players, and now they're left with a completely new roster, and they're struggling. Even though odds on betting against compLexity are going to be low, they are definitely worth your money, as we simply cannot see them win a match against anyone!

8 more teams will be qualifying through the Minors:

What stages are there at IEM Katowice 2019?

Even though IEM Katowice 2019 qualifiers may seem complicated, but we assure you, they are not. After we'll have a final list of competitors, we will see them battle it out against each other in one big group which consists of 16 teams. This part is called the group stage, and it will last over a week.

After the group stage is concluded, we will move on to the International Congress Center and we will see the best 8 teams fight for their share of $1.000,000 and of course, Major trophy.

The New Challengers Stage

This part of IEM Katowice is the first stage towards securing the playoffs spot. Basically, 16 teams that were able to qualify either as the first or second placed teams in the Minors secured their spot in The New Challengers Stage.

This segment of the IEM Katowice will start on February 13th, while the last match will be held on February 17th. Player-selected seeding has been put in place and we're most likely to see the best possible seeding method yet. Each participant will be asked to create their own power rankings of every team that is attending the event. After every paper has been collected, the scores will  determine the entire seeding for the event.

Every match will be played in a best-of-1 format, except for the elimination and advancement matches. They will bet played in a best-of-3 series. Lastly, top 8 teams will advance through to The New Legends Stage, while the bottom 8 teams will be eliminated from IEM Katowice 2019.

These are the teams taking part in The New Challengers Stage:

  • NRG
  • FURIA
  • Renegades
  • Grayhound
  • AVANGAR
  • Spirit
  • ENCE
  • Vitality
  • Cloud9
  • G2
  • NIP
  • TyLoo
  • Vega Squadron
  • Fnatic
  • Winstrike
  • ViCi

The New Legends Stage

Given the fact that The New Challengers Stage is not considered as the part of IEM Katowice, we will consider it as a qualifier. However, The New Legends Stage is a real deal. As we mentioned above, top 8 teams will advance through to The New Legends Stage and they will try their best to secure The New Champions Stage.

This stage will start on February 20th, while the last match in this stage will be played on February 24th. Once again we will see a Swiss format, and once again 16 teams will try their best in order to advance through to the playoffs.

Player-selected seeding has once again been put in place, and it seems like this is the only type of seeding that is fair since teams are directly deciding who is the best and who is the worst. Match format stayed the same. Every match is played in a best-of-1 format, while elimination and advancement matches are played in a best-of-3 series.

Lastly, top 8 teams will advance through to The New Champions Stage, while other 8 teams are eliminated from IEM Katowice 2019.

The New Champions Stage

Even though this stage has a really heroic name, it's nothing more than playoffs. Playoffs are set to start on February 28th, while the grand finals will be played on March 3rd.

There will be no second chances for anyone at the IEM Katowice 2019, as a single-elimination bracket has been put in place. Lastly, all the matches in The New Champions Stage will be played in a best-of-3 series.
